Sweetwater Kitchen at Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch

My little family and I took a trip to Southern Utah….Boulder, Utah to be exact. This was our first time visiting Boulder and the beauty of its true wilderness took us by surprise! Our destination was to check out Sweetwater Kitchen’s vegan menu and stay over night in their newly remodeled cabins.

Travel time from Salt Lake City is about 4 hours to this rustic-chic lodge and Southwestern eatery. The small town of Boulder has all the basic services you need including two gas stations, a postal office, coffee shop, restaurants, and a small grocery store. There is limited cell service so be prepared with a map and directions before departing. In fact my cell service was lost winding down the mountains before we approached the town. I enjoyed being disconnected from emails and social media, it made the experience and spending quality time with my family more enjoyable.

We visited during the first weekend of October and experienced the rainy Fall weather and even a bit of snow. It was a rainy drive down and we were eager to check into our cozy cabin!

Once arriving to the Ranch we checked in and the front desk agent introduced us to the area and graciously walked us around the property showing off its unique features.

Afterwards we settled into our newly renovated cabin (the finished wood aroma made the cabin even more cozy) and enjoyed some hot cocoa while we explored the outskirts around the cabin before heading to dinner.

We left our cabin and walked over to the main lodge at Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch. Inside they offer a fully organic, garden-to-table restaurant called, Sweetwater Kitchen. They source their food locally and 95% of all ingredients used are organic. One of my favorite parts of the menu was that they off a full liquor and wine menu. Being out in the middle of the desert and enjoying a fine dining meal with an extensive liquor menu was absolutely incredible!

The manager and server, Eva, graciously helped us to our table with a great view of the garden and property, she also helped us navigate the menu and inform us of their seasonal specials.
We started off with drinks, I ordered their Mexican Rose Tequila cocktail and Sean ordered a Lagunitas IPA, Graham stuck with his sippy cup of juice.

For our appetizer we got the organic house-made hummus with toasted focaccia bread, garden crudites, toasted walnuts and topped with basil oil. This hummus was without a doubt the best hummus of my life! OMG I have craved it everyday since we left the lodge!!!!

Next we ordered the Butternut (local) Squash Soup and the Arugula Salad with poached pears, miso sesame vinaigrette & spiced walnuts. After we placed the order, a few minutes later we saw the Chef run outside to the garden and pick off some Sage for our Butternut Squash soup! Sweetwater Kitchen is truly organic and a unique farm to table experience.

For our main entrees, I ordered the Stuffed Sweet Potato with black beans, guacamole and quinoa. Sean ordered the seasonal Squash & Kale salad with house made dressing and edible flowers. We had Graham enjoy their Garden Squash Taco with kale and black beans.

To finish off this amazing meal we tasted their Pear Soup Dessert! It was sweet and warm, a perfect way to end the night!

We were completely taken back by how outstanding the menu and entrees were (for being in the middle of the desert that is). To stumble upon such exquisite attention to detail and freshly organic food, was incredible! I can not express my how much my tastebuds enjoyed this food!

The presentation of the food was beautiful for both our palette and eyes. Eric Arballo has been the head chef at Sweetwater Kitchen for 7 years, and his talents are truly shown on your plate.

Now the menu is not completely vegan but they are able to customize your meal to fit any dietary needs. The staff at both Sweetwater and Boulder Mountain Ranch want you to have a one of a kind experience.

We walked back to our cabin with full bellies and played a few card games while we listened to the rain storm (one of my all time favorite sounds). It was such a cozy atmosphere in our cabin and I loved cuddling in bed with my two boys while we drifted off to sleep.

We woke up the next morning, got ready and walked to the main lodge for breakfast. Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch offers a complimentary breakfast for everyone staying at the Ranch. All you have to do is fill out a menu sheet the day prior and submit your requests and the time you would prefer to eat, to the front desk. When you arrive in the dining room the waiter will have your prepared entrees ready.

They have a house made granola that is vegan friendly, and we added almond milk to create a yummy cereal. We also enjoyed warm toast and freshly cut fruit for breakfast.

After breakfast we let Graham play around the cabin while Sean and I enjoyed coffee on the front porch. All of the fresh rain from the day before made the sage brush and plants smell wonderful.

We hiked to the waterfall below our cabin, then came back up and packed our bags to head back home.

But before we left Boulder we decided to drive around and check out Hell’s Backbone Rd/Bridge, a paved road through Dixie National Forest with sweeping views of sagebrush and pine forest with the alpine Boulder Mountain in the distance. A spectacular drive and view, definitely recommend it!

As we approached the peak of Hell’s Backbone Scenic Drive & Hell’s Backbone Bridge, it was foggy and full of snow. We were not able to experience the dramatic view of the bridge and canyon below, but still enjoyed learning about how it was built.

Its fall in October… I was not prepared for the Snow on this trip!

Our over all experience was beautiful and we are eager to come back in the summer and experience it with our family and friends. We plan on renting their large cabin that sleeps 12, while visiting nearby popular destinations like, Boulder Mail Trail, Lower Calf Creek Falls, Burr Trail Scenic Drive and hikes, Anasazi State Park & Museum, Escalante River, and Hole in The Rock Road.

Within minutes from Boulder Mountain Ranch, there are countless hikes, scenic vistas, and beautiful drives making Sweetwater Kitchen a perfect location for filling up after a desert adventure!

OH my goodness it was sooooo delicious! While all the products were divine, this was my favorite thing I ordered from Nekter.

They offer two flavors, but only one of them is vegan friendly.

Vegan Coconut Vanilla & Chocolate Bliss.
(The chocolate contains honey, but is dairy free)

They’re free from dairy, soy, gluten, refined sugar, preservatives and artificial flavors. Made from clean ingredients like cashew milk, honey, sea salt, Tahitian and bourbon vanilla, coconut sugar, and pure cocoa.
You can even add delicious toppings like; coconut flakes, vegan chocolate chips, chocolate drizzle, strawberries, blueberries, cacao nibs, gluten-free granola.

What is this bright pink smoothie and açaí bowl I am thouroghly enjoying?
It’s a fruit called, Pitaya which is also known as Dragon Fruit. It comes from the more tropical regions like South America and Asia. It’s name “Dragon Fruit” comes from it’s outer skin. It is pink and cactus-like and resembles the scales of a “dragon.” This pink dragon packs a healthy punch and its tasty too!

WATERMELON COOLER
Made from hydrating watermelon and a touch of cooling, fresh mint for the ultimate refreshing summer drink.

DRAGONFRUIT BOWL
Pitaya, banana, pineapple, coconut butter, and coconut water blended together and topped with hempseed granola, raw coconut flakes, fresh strawberry, banana, pineapple, and agave nectar. 

There's a lot of good going on in the an acai bowl. Frozen fruit, fresh fruit, nut butter, almond milk, nuts, and seeds. Acai berries are higher in antioxidants than other popular berries such as cranberries, blueberries and strawberries. They're also high in fiber, calcium and vitamin A.

The PIE Pizzeria's Vegan Menu

The Pie Pizzeria was one of my favorite pizza joints growing up. My mom would take me to the University Underground location when I was younger and I thought it was such a cool hidden spot! When I approached my high school and college years, my friends and I would have midnight pizza runs to the Underground Pizza joint. A fun quirk to all the Pie locations is that they let you write on their walls with markers. I have my name and a few ex-boyfriends names marked on those walls in several locations, LOL! This place is the epitome of all college hangouts, and for us locals we simply call it THE PIE!

I have a lot of fun memories growing up and eatting pizza from the Pie. So when I became Vegan I was happy to hear they offered vegan pizzas. But as of earlier this year the PIE revamped their vegan menu and came out with a TON of options! I couldn't be happier that the Pie offers Vegan options for their customers who want to be able to enjoy their favorite Pie or an order of Vegan Buffalo Wings without compromising their health, values, or the environment.

The Pie offers a separate Vegan Menu with a variety of locally sourced Vegan toppings as well as Follow Your Heart Vegan Cheese. Their cheese melts, stretches and tastes similar to real cheese! But my favorite item is the Pie's Cheese Pull-A-Parts, they are an absolute must every time we go!

The Pie's pizza dough, pizza sauce and house made Ranch are all Vegan! I love dipping my pizza in ranch dressing and my breadsticks in their pizza marinara sauce! Yum!

• 12" VEGAN BBQ BEEF PIE: Hand tossed dough with BBQ sauce, Vegan Ground Beef, Juicy Pineapple, Red Onions, Vegan Cheddar, & Vegan mozzarella topped with cilantro. (We ordered this one to go and ate it for dinner that same night)

• Single slice of Vegan Cheese Pizza for Graham
   

• VEGAN CHEESE PULL-A-PARTS:
  14” Hand tossed dough stuffed with Vegan Cheddar and Vegan Mozzarella, brushed with extra virgin olive oil and seasoned with garlic and oregano. It includes Pizza Sauce for dipping, but we also ordered an extra side of vegan ranch.

• VEGAN BUFFALO WINGS: Order of 8 Wings with a side of Vegan Garlic Ranch for dipping. You can choose from Buffalo, Teriyaki, Spicy Thai Peanut, or BBQ flavor. We opted for traditions Buffalo.

• VEGAN DINNER SALAD: Iceberg and Romaine lettuce, tomato, carrots, and your choice of vegan Italian dressing or Ranch dressing

• Micro-Brewed Root Beer
  Root Beer brewed from scratch and served ice cold from a keg! Pours like a fine Ale.

• Draft Beer
  Sean ordered a pitcher of their Trader IPA. They have a nice selection of local beers on tap as well as several domestic and imports in the bottle.

What I love about their vegan options is that I don't feel like I am eating a substitute for pizza or wings. They have done a great job of making the taste and texture just right. The ingredients were fresh, and abundant. The salads and vegan wings were well balanced and complimented the pizza perfectly!

One thing I will mention is I like my pizza to have a thin crust, and I forgot to ask for that. The PIE can easily make your pizza with little or no cheese, thick or thin crust, and they also have a whole dedicated GLUTEN FREE menu! The options are endless!

Vegan Options at LAST COURSE

Last Course is a dessert studio!  Each of their desserts are carefully and creatively made in their Utah kitchen with pure and local ingredients. Its a bit different than your average Ice Cream shop and its just what we needed in downtown SLC. The location is perfect, if you are shopping at City Creek Center... just walk across the street and you are there! Or if you are heading to a show at the new Eccles Theatre, grab some delicious dessert beforehand.
They have two locations, one in Draper and one Downtown SLC. We visited the one located

Once you step inside this beautiful dessert studio you will be eager to lick everything in site! From the grey and blue tile to the loft upstairs, it is wonderfully designed and a chic place to hang out.

We ordered two different Ice Cream cones. Just make sure to ask for the sugar cone, their waffle cones are NOT vegan.

VEGAN PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE CHUNK
Creamy, dreamy, peanut butter with heavenly chocolate chunks. You’d never believe it’s vegan, gluten-free, and no added sugar.

VEGAN APPLE COBBLER
Fresh from the bake room, extraordinary vegan apple cobbler, swirled into our sensational vegan cream base. Gluten-Free, and no added sugar.

Next we tried THE VEGAN WAFFLE
Hot fluffy waffles with coconut chocolate nougats, topped with naturally sweetened caramel, toasted almonds and coconut.

We also decided to try a SODA FLOAT.

We ordered their VEGAN VANILLA ICE CREAM and walked over to the soda machine and filled our cup up!
They offer full flavored vanilla ice-cream minus the dairy! WAHOO!  Pure and velvety rich flavor, what every vegan dreams of. Gluten-Free, and no added sugar.

Lastly we tasted their VEGAN COCONUT CREME PIE
This was my personal favorite! 
A sugar free chocolate coated coconut shell filled with delicious cream pie filling, topped with toasted almonds, coconut and chocolate drizzled nougats. 

After you are done ordering you are able to hang out downstairs in the standing bar area, or walk upstairs to a cute little loft with tables and chairs. 

In a hurry? They offer pints and quarts of your favorite Ice Cream flavors to go!

Overall it was a sugary delicious experience and we are excited they have arrived to feed our vegan bellies!

Review on MAZZA a Middle Eastern Cafe

Mazza serves Middle Eastern Cuisine at two locations in Salt Lake City. For todays adventure we headed to the 9th & 9th location to test out their Vegan options.

The owner wanted everyone to be able to enjoy Mazza, so they sorted their menu out with three different icons;
Vegetarian, Vegan or Gluten-Free options. When you see the double V that means it is a Vegan option, so it is simple and easy to order. 

Every dish is made from scratch, using fresh, high quality ingredients.

 I started off with one of their signature cocktails,
THE DESERT ROSE.

This fun pink drink is made with regular and citrus vodkas and blended with peach, strawberry, lime and rose water mixer. It was refreshingly sweet, and without a doubt one of my favorite cocktails I have ever tasted!

Next up was our starter dish, Hummus & Pita Bread.
 

Fresh cooked garbanzo beans blended smooth with lemon juice, garlic, tahini, and olive oil. It had a delicious tart taste and I loved how creamy the hummus was! 

 Graham loves to dip anything and everything so he was having a grand old time with this starter dish.

Isn't this spread beautiful... sadly it didn't last long! The hostess and waitress were so kind and patient with us! Bringing a toddler into a restaurant is a challenge these days, and Graham definitely made a scene...

Teddy Graham refused to sit in his highchair and wanted to use the utensils as drum sticks. I told Graham we can not do that and asked him to give me the fork and spoon. He got upset and started pushing and shoving things off the table. Luckily I had my mother with me, but we still couldn't save the glass of water from shattering all over the table. I even attempted to catch the glass mid fall, but unfortunately the glass cut my finger.
Oh my goodness, I was so embarrassed! My mother took Graham outside to "cool off" while I attempted to help the wait staff clean up. They were so sweet and kind while I was completely mortified of the gigantic mess and trying not to bleed all over the white linens. 

They moved us to a new table and served us with such care!

I ordered a small cup of their Butternut Squash & Kale soup. It was rich, warm and sweet. Perfect for this cold spring weather!

We also tried one of their Vegetable Skewers. It has freshly grilled and marinated vegetables, served alongside Tahini sauce.
Tahini is a seed butter made from ground hulled sesame seeds. Tahini is vegan and like any seed-based food, is rich in protein, fat and other nutrients. 

Lastly was the Falafel Sandwich. Your options are bread or having it served over rice or salad, I chose the pita pocket. 
Its has crunchy balls of ground fava, garbanzo beans, herbs, and seasonings fried and served with pickles and greens. For their sauce, make sure to ask for the regular tahini sauce since its vegan friendly.

I can't believe this is my first time eating at MAZZA! I have definitely been missing out. This is now my favorite restaurant in the valley! I truly recommend this establishment, because of the outstanding service, excellent cuisine, and overall dining experience. Plus it is great for all dietary needs!

I love trying different flavors every time I stop by. They offer seasonal as well as weekly varietals in addition to their every day standards.

We ordered an Almond Milk Latte and a Coconut Almond Lavender Herbal Tea, for my mother. I actually ended up drinking more of the tea, it was so flavorful!

Review on Monkeywrench Ice Cream and Coffee shop

I can enjoy Ice Cream anytime of the year! What about you?

Graham and I wanted something sweet so we drove downtown to get an afternoon treat!

We are loving this crazy & bizarre Utah "winter".... its 50 degrees in February! Totally crazy!

Monkeywrench is an Ice Cream shop located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City.

They make their own handcrafted ice cream, delicious baked goods & pastries, and also a few plant based milks!

It is 100% vegan, from coffee to ice cream and pastries!

There is also a craft espresso bar, with coffee, hot chocolate and assorted teas.

Monkeywrench offers a variety of plant based milks, but what I love the most is that they make their own in house Almond and Cashew milk. Amazingly delicious!!!

I enjoy the "Blend" milk, which is a combo of both.

I ordered a Matcha Latte, with the blended milk.

It has a strong vegetal taste mixed with a sweet aftertaste, yum!

I ordered an Orange Cranberry Biscotti to dip in my Matcha latte. 

Graham wasn't to sure about the Matcha flavor but he enjoyed eating the Biscotti!

Monkeywrench has a few standard flavors that are always in their case, like "Buds Cookie Dough" "Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple", and "Vanilla".

But they are always rotating flavors monthly, and its exciting to see what they come up with!

And he didn't even drop it.... I'm impressed Graham!

They feature a plethora of pastries and baked goods. 

Cookies, Muffins, Brownies, Coffee Cake, Banana Bread, etc...

We also tried their Brownie Al mode.

Its a double fudge brownie with chocolate chips, very chewy and mouthwatering!

We chose "Buds Cookie Dough" to put on top, and drizzled with their homemade caramel & chocolate sauce, garnished with chopped pecans.

I am excited to see what new flavors Monkeywrench comes out with next! 

I want to come back and try the "Early Grey" Ice Cream flavor next.

We were a bit amped up on sugar, so I let Graham run around the steps at the Gallivan Center before our drive home.

I feel so lucky to live close to such a great Vegan Ice Cream shop. Its clean and modern inside, has a friendly staff to help you out, but best of all, its delicious! 

Everyone I talk to can't get enough of this darling shop, so bring your friends and family, vegan or not they will love it! I promise, even my friends were surprised the ice cream was made out of nuts!!

Kaff Mercantile featuring Lavender Kitchen bakery goods

Graham and I went and checkout Kaff Mercantiles brand new location! Its a really great open beautiful space. Kaff Mercantile is a coffee shop located  in Ogden, Utah. They serve coffee, espresso, tea, freshly made pastries, and breakfast sandwiches. One of my favorite things about this establishment is Lavender Kitchen! They are a plant based wholesale bakery, and bake out of Kaffe Mercantile.

We ordered quite a few things! Check them out below.

Kylee Hallows was our barista and helper today. She was so sweet and answered all of our product questions perfectly! She is the sales and product placement specialist for Lavender Kitchen.

LEMON POPPYSEED MUFFIN

Its a crumbly muffin and delicious to dip in your coffee!

Graham was a big fan! I barely got two bites out of the muffin before he devoured it.

YETI BITES

They are vegan marshmallows covered in and non dairy chocolate! These were my absolute favorite! I regret not buying more than two!

MANGO HABANERO O-TOWN COOKIE

It is a very soft and chewy cookie with bits of shredded coconut baked inside. The center is a jelly mango habanero. It has a little sweet and spicy kick to it which was perfect for me, since I love spicy things!

SOY LATTE

You have the option of ordering it in a tall glass or in a mug.

VEGAN AVOCADO TOAST

Served on vegan multigrain bread, with humus, avocado, red bell peppers, and sprinkled with fresh cracked pepper!

Yum! I could eat this every morning!

We brought our Camp Castle playmat with us to the coffee shop! It was so nice to let Graham entertain himself and play with his cars on this mat, while I worked on my phone and made a few calls. I love how easy the mini mat is to carry around. It fit perfectly in my diaper bag!

Sonora Grill Restaurant in Ogden, Utah

The Sonora Grill is top notch! If you are in northern Utah this place is a must try!

The food is incredibly fresh and tasty.

Their portions were quite large, that we ended up taking home leftovers. Which ends up being a great snack or lunch for the next day!

The best thing about this restaurant is that they have a completely separate Vegan menu.

A whole page dedicated to all of their Vegan options! 

I ordered the Ultimate Margarita. It is mixed with El Jimador Reposado, muddled lime and ice, simple syrup, lime juice, Gran Gala floater, shaken and served on the rocks. For Utah drink standards this Margarita is very well made.

One of the unique items that Sonora Grill has you try, are there massive round tortilla chips. They are served along side two different salsas, a Morita Salsa (smokey Red Salsa) and a Tomatillo (Green Salsa). I prefer a spicy hot salsa and these are definitely on the mild side. So if you don't like heat, these salsas are perfect. 

Graham thoroughly enjoyed the massive tortilla chip. The chip was bigger than his whole head! I love watching him try new foods. Its fun to see his eyes get big and start cooing with excitement. 

There table side guacamole is amazing! So fresh and delicious! The price is a bit expensive, but the amount of guacamole you receive is plenty enough to serve at least 4-5 people! 

We ordered off the kids menu for Teddy Graham, black beans and rice.

As all babies do, he loved throwing his rice and beans on the floor... But he kept asking for more beans and guacamole! This baby sure loves his guac!

I ordered the Crispy Avocado Tacos. You get three tacos on made-from-scratch corn tortillas with crispy avocado slices, fresh pineapple, cabbage, cucumber, cilantro, radishes and pico de gallo. They top it with dairy free mango chipotle sauce and serve it with a side of black beans and coconut almond rice. The tacos were very fresh tasting. It had tons of pineapple on it which gave it a very tropical flavor. 

Below is their Vegan Black Bean Burrito. Its quite large! It comes on a handmade flour tortilla filled with rice, black beans, tomatoes, onions, cilantro and guacamole. They smother it in red enchilada sauce and top it with dairy free avocado cream. It is served with pico de gallo and slaw on the side. I obviously took a few bites of this ginormous burrito, and fell in love. I especially loved the avocado sauce they put on it.

Vegan options at Starbucks

Graham and I stopped in at Starbucks to grab a few snacks and drinks between our Holiday Shopping yesterday.

I already knew plenty of drink options, but I always wondered about there snacks and food. 

Each location/State and/or Country varies, so make sure when you are ordering with your Barista to ask your local Starbucks about their vegan options.

Milks and Toppings

The basics are already vegan. You can order hot coffee or an iced coffee with your favorite non dairy milk. 

But for drinks that have a little more detail you will need to always remember to order with

Review on Cuppa

Excited to tell you about a brand new all Vegan cafe! 

Put it in your schedule for this weekend, you won't regret it, I promise!

Graham and I stumbled upon the cutest cafe this week. They just opened a few weeks ago, and are a completely plant based, vegan eatery.

Cori, one of the kind staff members at Cuppa informed me that the official Grand Opening will be the first week of December. 

From the moment you walk in you can see some many unique details. The floor is made out of a previous basketball court and they have cute little vintage typewriters and herbs on the counter while you wait in line.

The thought and detail that was placed in the design of this cafe is remarkable. 

The menu is organic and filled with many different types of organic teas, coffee, bites, and bowls.

We started off with one of their bites...

ABC Muffins: 

apple, beets, carrots, coconut oil. Served with lemon cashew cream dipping sauce.

Graham loved this little bite. It was perfect for his hands. I regret not buying a few more to take home with me.

I ordered a water for Graham and a Soy Latte with their house made Almond Milk for myself.

I also ordered a Tartine. The staff was so happy to let me try a mix of two different tartines, instead of a whole one I ordered half of each.

Pesto & Avocado Tartine

Heirloom Tomato Tartine

A beautiful mix of heirloom favorites, served on whole grain or sourdough, spread with Just Mayo, sprinkled with a touch of sea salt, served with side salad.

I can't rave enough about these little toasts! The flavor was on point and the freshness of the veggies was crisp and delicious! I especially loved the spread underneath the veggies.

Graham enjoyed eating the tomatoes from the salad. He has really come to love tomatoes the past few weeks.

I ordered the most popular plate to go, for Sean to try when he got home from work. I did sneak a bite before I packaged it up... and OMG it was better than expected! I wish I didn't fill up on my two other items so I could finish these tacos! 

I will definitely be back to order the street tacos again. Even 5 hours later when Sean tasted them, he thought they were tasty!

Jackfruit Tacos

Seasoned jackfruit, avocados, cabbage, carrots, cherry tomatoes, drizzled with a house sauce.

After you order your food you are able to sit on the main floor and look out the big bay windows, or make your way upstairs to their big loft. 

The loft is filled with plenty of seating and tables. It has the cutest blue velour couch and a grand piano where they have local artists play.

The details in this cafe are just perfect. I could sit here all day and relax with a cup of tea....except I have a 15 month old I was chasing up and down.

(Sorry to the staff at Cuppa... Graham grabbed leaves off a succulent..)

Review on Lucky Slice Pizza

Pizza lovers raise your hand!

Lucky Slice Pizza has been one of my favorite pizza joints, even before I became vegan.

I love their New York-style pie, the crust is thin, but thick enough to fold a slice in half lengthwise. This simplifies eating the pizza without utensils, which makes it faster for me to eat so I can grab another!

They have had a few vegan options on their menu for awhile, but recently dedicated a separate menu just for their vegan options! Meaning they have so many vegan options they had to create and additional menu! How amazing is that!!

You are welcome to walk right in and just order a slice of pizza or an entire pie. For lunch today, we ordered both, so we could have pizza for dinner tonight!

For their cheese substitute they use the brand Daiya.

They have mozzarella or parmesan. You can also substitute spinach for cheese which is a popular choice. 

We ordered:

-a slice of their Vegan Carmen pizza

(red sauce, roasted potatoes, caramelized onions, roasted red pepper, vegan mozzarella)

This is my husband Sean's favorite pizza.

-a side of their Cauli Buds

(breaded cauliflower that is fried and tossed in your choice of sauce, I chose buffalo flavor, with a side of vegan ranch)

I am obsessed with cauliflower, and they do a great job making these little buds! You can order a full or 1/2 pound.

-a vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie

(chunky dark chocolate chips with a hint of cinnamon)

Its not your standard chocolate chip, because they toss in a few different spices, still delicious none the less.

Lastly we ordered my absolute FAVORITE the biggest pie on their menu...a 20'' vegan Marghie!

(red sauce, spinach, garlic, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, balsamic drizzle, basil chiffanaud)

The balsamic drizzle makes the pizza! I always ask for extra basil on my pizzas too.

Grand Opening of Cinnaholic

Vegan gourmet cinnamon rolls! Yes please!

Two months ago I heard that Cinnaholic was opening a location in Utah. It is 100% vegan. All of the baked goods are dairy & lactose-free, egg-free and cholesterol-free. They also serve hot and iced coffee, with almond or soy creamers.

Cinnaholic was featured on the television show "Shark Tank," and accepted a deal from Robert Herjavec!

They have multiple locations across the United States. Hopefully there is one close to you!

Being an avid lover of sweets, I am always trying new desserts. Since becoming vegan I have had my fair share of well, disgusting treats. I get so excited about them and once they hit my tastebuds I spit it right out and am completely disappointed. But on the other hand I have had plenty of vegan desserts that satisfied my sugar craving. I knew that once I became vegan I was on a mission to prove that vegan desserts are just as tasty or even more delicious than non vegan desserts. 

The cinnamon rolls and cookie dough at Cinnaholics won me over and I can wait to share all the amazingly delicious treats!

I was lucky enough to be invited to Cinnaholics VIP night by the store owner, Kurtis Nielsen. Kurtis and his lovely wife, welcomed friends and family into the store to taste the goodies before they officially opened.

If you follow me on Instagram I did a live video of the event and showed you all the magic! But if you missed it, no fear I have the details for you.

The bakery is located downtown Salt Lake City in the 4th South Market Center. It sits between Rumbi Island Grill and Super Cuts.

You walk into a brightly purple painted bakery filled with the aroma of warm cinnamon rolls! They have a display case featuring their monthly specials and a few examples of their most popular creations.

They have created an easy way for you to order. You have the option of purchasing a tradition "Old Skool" roll or you can customize your cinnamon roll to your liking.

You start out with a basic warm cinnamon roll and then choose your favorite frosting and toppings. 

Their display case features examples and gives you ideas of the endless possibilities... Cinnamon rolls, cookies, brownies, cinnamon cakes, cookie dough, etc. 

You do not order out of the case, you simply place an order for a fresh one to be made.

This month they have 3 autumn flavors.

Tiramisu:

Cinnamon roll with tiramisu frosting, graham cracker, and dark chocolate chips.

Pumpkin Pie:

They also have mini cinnamon rolls to go, and although they are not warm they still taste delicious. The baby buns come with a single frosting shot, and you can choose the frosting flavor.

Blueberry Pie:

Cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting topped with blueberries and their brown sugar oat mixture.

Salted Carmel:

Cinnamon Roll with cream cheese frosting, pretzels, and drizzled with caramel sauce.

Smore:

Cinnamon roll with marshmallow frosting, graham crackers, marshmallows, and drizzled with chocolate sauce.

Let It Snow:

Cinnamon roll with cake batter frosting, chunks of cookie dough, and drizzled with chocolate sauce and strawberry jam.

It is available in three sizes; 6inch, 8inch, and featured in this photo below is the 12 inch. They need 24 hours notice for a cinnacake order.

Along with baked chocolate chip cookies, they also sell tubs of cookie dough to go! I grabbed one to take home so I could enjoy it over the weekend.

Review on Eva's Bakery

Three years ago today, Sean and I were in Paris, France celebrating our 2nd Wedding Anniversary. When I came home from our trip abroad, I missed being able to walk into all the cute little Parisian cafes. Luckily I discovered Eva's bakery, and my need for Parisian cafes was satisfied.

If you haven't had a chance to visit Paris, take a step inside Eva's Bakery and you will feel as if you have time traveled to France.

From the moment you spot the bakery you are in love. Its outside charm draws everyone in with its bright blue and yellow exterior.

When you first walk in, you see a wall lined with fresh baguettes, and a pastry case stocked with delicious baked goods.

I love how vintage everything looks, from the tiled floors and walls, to the display cases of treats. Even before we ordered, I just wanted to sit and enjoy myself, but with a walking baby thats not an option these days...

While it is a bakery, the Boulangerie also serves up a light lunch with European-style flatbread pizzas, salads, soups, and of course amazing vegan selections. This is not a solely vegan establishment but they do have plenty of Vegan options.

For brunch, we ordered a small Latte with soy milk. It was frothy and warm on this chilly fall afternoon. 

I also ordered Graham a Vegan banana nut muffin and a Vegan chocolate chunk cookie. Both were devoured instantly while we waited for our main dish. 

We ordered the ROASTED BEET & AVOCADO TOAST. It is served on their house seeded bread with lemon herb vinaigrette & scallions, alongside some boulange potatoes. 

The toast was very delicious, and the had jus the right amount of crunch. Graham wasn't to sure about the vinegary taste, but he enjoyed eating the avocados and potatoes.

We began eating outside because their patio is adorable, but with the chilly autumn weather, we ended up back inside to stay warm. I was grateful that they had a high chair for Graham to sit in.

Eva’s Bakery is small and romantic, but stopping by for a morning coffee or lunch date with the girls, will be just as perfect.

This bakery will make anyones heart swoon.

Review on SPITZ

We stopped at the downtown Salt Lake City Spitz location for lunch after we tried the newly open Monkeywrench (vegan ice cream shop). Spitz has 3 locations in Utah and few around the Untied States. You are able to seat either inside or outside on the patio. This is not an exclusive Vegan restaurant, but they are able to make any item on their menu Vegan. 

Spitz is serves Mediterranean street food and craft beers and cocktails. 

Our drinks:

I ordered a classic Mojito.

Sean ordered a Squatters Hop Rising Double IPA.

They also have a water dispenser with lemon, basil and cucumber or plain water on the counter, for self serving. 

Our Entrees:

I ordered the Vegan version of their Mediterranean Doner with falafel, and chose the wrap style. It comes with hummus, kalamata olives, romaine, cabbage, tomato, onion, green pepper, cucumber, and tzatziki.

Sean ordered their most popular wrap, the Vegan version of their Street Cart Done with falafel. This wrap has garlic aioli, fried lavash chips, romaine, cabbage, tomato, onion, green pepper, cucumber, and tzatziki.

We shared an order of their famous, STREET CART FRIES. We asked for the vegan version. It is topped with garlic aioli, onion, green pepper, tomato, olives, and pepperoncinis.

Graham had a few bites of the fries and enjoyed them. We gave him pieces of our falafels and he spit them out. Apparently he isn't a falafel fan. He barely sat in a high chair, and mostly wanted to walk around the restaurant and say hi to everyone.

Sean and I have ate at Spitz a few times and have had pretty good experiences, but we both felt that our falafels were extra dry this time. The rest of our wraps were very tasty, and the fries had a lot of flavor.

This won't steer us away from going here again, because maybe it was a fluke. 

Overall Spitz is a pretty decent lunch spot.

Review on the brand new Vegan restaurant, Boltcutter

Excited is an understatement when I refer to the opening of this restaurant! I first heard about this restaurant opening a few months ago. The owners of "Boltcutter" also own "Buds Sandwich Shop." (I did a review on Buds go check it out) 

Buds social media page announced that they were in the works to open a Central American themed restaurant with street tacos and other vegan dishes, with specialty crafted cocktails...

My heart stoped right there. My two favorite "M" words were mentioned in the same sentence, Mexican Food and Margaritas!

They also sneaked in an announcement about another store front in the works called "Monkeywrench."  It will be serving a large variety of handcrafted vegan ice creams, along side a full espresso bar and house made baked goods.

Holy guacamole! I couldn't hold my excitement in any longer! My poor husband Sean was driving, while I was reading this social media announcement. I am glad he didn't steer off the road and crash, as I randomly started screaming with excitement at my phone! 

They opened 4 days ago and I had the luxury of going last night, their 3rd night open! So without further stalling.... Here is my review on BOLTCUTTER.

I am always afraid that I might amp things up a bit much, and then arrive at the location only to be let down. BUT that was definitely not the case here.

We walked in at 615pm on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was already half way filled up! By the time we left at 730pm. It was a packed house! That right there should tell you this place is amazing.

We were seated right away, and asked for a table in the corner since they do not offer high chairs. Graham is at the stage where he is not willing to sit for long periods of time and requires Sean or I to get up and walk around with him. I invited my parents to tag along so we could order multiple things off the menu. I was determined to try as much as I could eat!

We started off ordering drinks. I ordered the Bolcutter Margarita -Tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, spiced orange bitters, mezcal mist

Sean ordered a Red Rock Elephant Double IPA

We ordered 3 appetizers

Nachos

-Corn chips, cheese sauce. Beans. Pico. Guac. Pickled jalapeños. Green Onions. Cashew Cream. Barbacoa Jackfruit

Street Corn

-Grilled Corn. Cashew cream. Chili powder. Almond parmesan. Chipotle. Cilantro

Buffalo Cauliflower

-Battered cauliflower. Habanero buffalo. Almond cilantro chimichurri. Ranch

Our Entrees included:

Port Boy Taco

-Battered portobello. Grilled Corn. Romesco. Romaine. Cashew cream. Green onion. Served on fresh corn tortillas. You can choose to order 2 or 3 tacos. 

Barbacoa Especial Burrito

-Chipotle BBQ jackfruit. Beans. Rice. Pico. Lettuce. Guac. Served on a fresh flour tortilla with a side of pickled veggies.

Baja Taco

-Breaded and grilled citrus tempeh. Chipotle salsa. Cashew cream. Cilantro. Cabbage. Lime. Served on fresh corn tortillas. You can choose to order 2 or 3 tacos. 

Sin Carne Asada Burrito

-Marinated seitan. Beans. Rice. Pico. Mango tomatillo salsa. Lettuce. Guac. Served on a fresh flour tortilla with a side of pickled veggies.

The food was absolutely delicious. I know I say that a lot, but I love food! This restaurant really hit the spot with all the street taco options! Their creamy cheese sauce on the nachos was perfect! The heat on the buffalo cauliflower buds was just right! My mother couldn't handle the heat, but I sure loved it! Graham couldn't get enough of the corn, he kept trying to reach for the bowl with both hands!

There are quite a few solid plant based, vegan, food establishments in Salt Lake City. They are not as upscale or modern as I would prefer a restaurant to be, but hey I will take what I can get! 

So I really appreciate this modern fresh take, it is definitely needed and desired for Vegans and even NON Vegans in the Salt Lake City area.

I was very impressed and honestly want to eat here at least once a week. Luckily for Sean, he works around the block and can grab lunch here anytime! Ahh I am jealous! 

I am eager for Monkeywrench to open! The shop will be right next door to Boltcutter! You will be able to grab dinner and then head next door for dessert!

Ahhh, so this is what Vegan Food Heaven feels like!

Review for 501 on Main

Every year a small town up in the Wasatch Mountains hosts a weekend celebration called Swiss Days. The little town known as Midway, Utah turned "Harvest Days" into Swiss Days. They dress in the traditional clothing unique to the region of Switzerland where their ancestors were born. The town is small and slightly designed to look like a Swiss Village.

Sean, Graham and I drove all the way up there to join the festival and see what they had to offer. I was able to purchase some cute little outfits for Graham. Sadly they did not have any vegan friendly food options, minus drinks.

We were starving, so after we left Midway, we drove 20 minutes to Park City to grab a late lunch. We had been told that 501 on Main had a few Vegan options on there menu.

We parked on Main Street and walked up the hill to corner where 501 on Main was located. They had an outdoor patio right along the sidewalk, with the hostess both seated outside. We asked if we were able to sit on the second level, they had space, so they seated us right away, and had a high chair ready for Graham. 

The atmosphere of this restaurant is very relaxed. You walk into an open bar area with high table tops situated around it and a staircase leading upstairs to a formal dining area and the outside deck.

We started off with drink of course! I ordered my usual, a  Margarita and Sean ordered a Ballast Point Watermelon IPA.

On there menu that had each item labeled with [GF, V, V2 option] It was so convenient  and easy for us to make our decision . We didn't have to ask if a certain item had dairy in it or if it could be made Vegan. We knew our options and that was so helpful! 

For our appetizer we ordered the Utah Sweet Onion Slivers. They had this marked with the V2 for Vegan. So I asked them what did they replace the dipping sauce with? Our waiter informed up that it was a vinegar citrus sauce.

I could not get enough of these! Graham enjoyed them as well. I even had to ask for more sauce, since I had already used mine up. 

For my entree I ordered the Vegan Chili. It had vegetables with legumes, onions, peppers, diced, tomatoes, and Mediterranean spices. Served along side rosemary bread.

It was a very filling soup. I haven't been stuffed like that since I became Vegan. One of the things I have loved about becoming Vegan is that I never am uncomfortably full after eating. But I believe this was a very hearty meal and would have been great after a day of skiing. I will order it again, but when its snowing outside.

Seam ordered their, Vegan Curry Wrap. They had multiple curry dishes, so they always made the curry sauce in house. The wrap was filled with Chikken Tenders, fresh carrots, potatoes, roasted peppers, and simmered in a coconut curry sauce. I did not taste this, because I am not a curry fan. Sean on the other hand, is! He said it was not spicy but had lots of Curry flavor and was very filling. He did not finish all of his wrap and took it home to eat later that evening.

Graham had a fun time walking around the the restaurant. We definitely enjoy going to places that are accepting of small children and understand when they refuse to sit still anymore. 

Our waiter did fill a bit overwhelmed, but was able to give us decent service. He loved Graham and kept trying to make him laugh.

When we visit 501 on Main next, I would love to be seated on the upper outside deck.

Review on Sages Cafe

Graham and I went downtown SLC to meet Sean after he got off work, for a bite to eat. We stopped at Sages Cafe, after hearing that Vegans and non Vegans rave about it! 

All of there recipes are 100% plant based and vegan.

We arrived at 6pm, and parked on the street. They do not have a designated parking lot. There was only a few people inside so we were able to get seated right away. 

The atmosphere was very simple, I felt like it need artwork or some coloring to it. Kind of basic and a bit boring. It did have a cute bookshelf in the corner filled with many types of books to read. They had a cute patio out front that I would have preferred to eat on, if we didn't have the baby with us. 

We started with drinks, I got a fresh squeezed Lemonade and Sean ordered an Elephino Double IPA.

We ordered an appetizer to start, the Asian Lettuce Wraps. They have diced vegetables, garlic, ginger, chiles, tamari, romaine lettuce leaves, your choice of protein; we chose mushrooms.

They were super tangy, and the lettuce wedges were quite large, so you were able to pile on the filling. I really enjoyed them. As most lettuce wraps are, the sauce was dripping out of the wrap, so get extra napkins.

For our entrees I ordered the Jackfruit Tacos. They are served on whole corn corn tacos, with breaded jackfruit, grilled vegetables, siracha aioli, burnt cumin sauerkraut, cilantro lime greens and avocado. They were pretty decent but I felt like the taco shell was kind of dry. Everything else inside the taco was delicious. I wasn't able to eat all three tacos, so I took the leftovers home and had it for lunch the next day.

Sean asked the waiter what their most popular dish was. The waiter informed us that everyone loves the Sweet and Sour Tender Tigers. It is served with rice, grilled vegetables, and a sweet and sour sauce served on the side. It was excellent, Sean devoured the whole thing!

We gave Graham a few bites of everything, but his favorite was the Lettuce Wraps, and his Soy milk of course.

As we were signing our check, and getting ready to head out, the place started to fill up by 7pm on a Monday night. 

We will be back again to try more of there menu, but probably with out Graham. Its not that they aren't family friendly, they are. They had a high chair for him and the server and guests thought he was cute when he wanted to walk around our table. But the restaurant is a very quite atmosphere, so when Graham would squeal with excitement or demand more food. It was noticeable... If the restaurant had background music playing, we might have felt more comfortable bringing a baby there. (Even though there menu states "Please enjoy our eclectic music")

Review on Even Stevens Sandwiches

Are you looking for a good Brunch spot? Well you should hit up Even Stevens! They have 8 Utah locations and a few around Idaho, Arizona, and Texas. I have tried 4 of the Utah locations and the Ogden layout is my personal favorite.

This restaurant is not entirely Vegan but they do have dedicated Vegan options on there menu. 

Not only do they have amazingly delicious food, but the cause behind the whole restaurant is very heartwarming. Heres how it works...

1. You buy a sandwich/entree off there menu

2. At the end of every month, each store tally's the sandwich sales. The funds for all the sandwich making ingredients like bread, meat, cheese and produce -are then placed into a Sysco food account.

3. Each store has different non-profit charity's they work with. And those partners can access the account and order sandwich-making ingredients as they need. A few days later, a truck delivers the order to that charity's doorstep. Free of charge.

4. The non-profit staff and volunteers make the meals or stock their pantry shelves. Those individuals in need are then fed with yummy meals and the non-profit partners can put their money where their passion is. Its a win win for all parties contributing!

Just knowing you are helping an amazing cause by just buying yourself a delicious meal, increases your love for this establishment.

When we arrived we parked in the back parking lot. You walk through there cute outside patio through the back door of the restaurant. You need to walk through the entire restaurant up to the front to place your order.

You may also park on the main road and walk through the front door. But finding a parking spot on Washington Blvd can be hard sometimes.

The atmosphere is very bright and energetic, from there wall paintings, artwork, and live musicians playing while you eat.

We both ordered drinks. I got the Very Berry Mimosa, and Sean ordered an EPIC Brewery beer.

I ordered the Jackfruit Torta. It is entirely Vegan. It comes with seasoned jackfruit, pipits, guacamole, salsa morita, radishes, cilantro, lettuce, pickled onions and served on a toasted sweet bun. You are able to choose bagged chips or a salad for you side. I chose a salad. I love the vingerette dressing they have, its very tangy and sweet. The sandwich was very feeling and had a lot of jackfruit packed in. I could have used more guacamole on it though. Overall it was a really good sandwich, and I will order it again! 

Sean ordered The New Morrissey Burrito. This is an all Vegan item as well. It is a breakfast burrito, stuffed with Mexican styled soyrizo, marinated tofu, tater tots, roasted veggies, and there house made garlic brava. When I took a bite of Sean burrito, I was worried I wouldn't like it. As a new Vegan I am still trying to like tofu, not a fan of it yet... But oh my gosh it was so goooood! I wanted to eat all of it instead of my own meal. The tofu and soyrizo were seasoned perfectly! It even had spice to it, which I love in any dish! Just typing this I want to drive up there and get one to eat right now!

Graham was really jamming out to the musician playing! This baby loves music and musical instruments. We cut up small pieces from both our meals and placed them in front of him to taste. He loved both the jackfruit and the soyrizo! He squawked for more when he had finished!

They are open seven days a week, so go try them for breakfast lunch or dinner. This is definitely one of our favorite spots to eat!

Review on ALL CHAY Vietnamese Restaurant

Sunday night was a date night for us. We dropped the baby off at our Aunt's house and headed downtown SLC.

My husband Sean and I are members of a Utah Vegan Facebook support page, and anytime a member asks where they should go get a bite to eat... ALL CHAY is always mentioned. So we knew we had to try it!

The restaurant is located on the west side of Salt Lake City. I never venture over to this neighborhood due to the high crime rate. But I insisted we drive over and check out what all the buzz is about.

Its tucked inside the corner of an old strip mall. You might miss it if you aren't paying attention. It is not an appealing store front, and to be honest, I probably wouldn't have ever given it a second glance, if I wasn't told about it.

Sean and I decided to take our Facebook groups word for it and test it out.

It was a very clean and simple establishment. 

We were greeted by this sweet lady pictured above.

There menu is entirely VEGAN! It is placed above the register area, and they also have a hard copy menu you can view as well. On the east facing wall, they have pictures that coordinate to there menu numbers, so you are able to visualize your meal.

We placed our food order and asked if they served alcohol. The lady said they serve water or soda. So Sean and I just got a couple of waters and seated ourselves.

After being seated only a few minutes, the hostess walked out with our food. We were impressed with how fast the service was. 

I ordered the Teriyaki Noodle Salad. It was served alongside there Vegan egg rolls (cabbage, carrots, green beans, mushrooms, onions, starch, soybean oil, tofu bean) and a very light sweet and sour sauce. Oh my goodness was this plate delicious!  I really wasn't expecting a lot of flavor, but boy was I wrong! The "chickun" was full of yummy teriyaki flavor, and the rice vermicelli was so light and refreshing with mint and cucumbers tossed in. 

Sean ordered the OCEAN LOVE plate. We were told by many fellow Vegans that this was an absolute must! 

They were right, it was delicious. Sean and I both love spicy food and it definitely had a spicy sauce served on the side and mixed into the "Shrimp." It was very tasty!! You are able to order the fried "Shrimp" as a small appetizer too. 

This little Vietnamese joint was nothing like I expected it to be. The prices were very cheap and affordable. Sean said he will be ordering takeout for lunch, while he is at work this week. We can't wait to come back and try more off there menu.

After dinner we drove to the Eccles Theatre. We had tickets to see Steve Martin and Martin Short! I was so giddy! Marty Short is my all time favorite comedian. 

Sean (34) and I (28) were one of the youngest people in the audience. It made us snicker, but I really didn't care, I was just too ecstatic! I grew up watching both of these guys on SNL and loving there 90's movies!

It was a great comedy show, I haven't laughed that hard in a very long time!
